Warfare as a System

I approached the visual direction with restraint, avoiding dramatic or emotional cues in favour of a sober, almost clinical tone. By framing the subject as logical and algorithmic, the work highlights how detachment and precision make the implications more unsettling.

Data & Consequence

I combined photorealistic renders with abstract, graphical representations to contrast how systems interpret data with its real-world implications. This juxtaposition bridges information design and perception, making the consequences of algorithmic decisions more tangible.

Project Brief

A university project created within the Information Design course exploring the implications of artificial intelligence in warfare. The work investigates lethal autonomous weapon systems (LAWS) through a speculative scenario grounded in real-world research and analysis.

Approach

This project allowed me to independently explore a topic and visual direction I found personally compelling. It became an opportunity to combine research, narrative, and visual style to communicate a complex and critical subject.

Takeaways

I began by researching articles, reports, and archives to understand the current state and future trajectory of autonomous warfare. These systems—capable of selecting and engaging targets with limited or no human intervention—raise complex ethical and societal questions about control, responsibility, and decision-making in conflict . Based on these insights, I developed a short film as a medium to explore and communicate these implications. The visual approach balances a subtle sci-fi aesthetic with grounded, realistic elements, allowing the topic to feel both plausible and immediate while abstracting it enough to make it accessible and digestible.
